26-06-19 Thank you from Sylvia

Yesterday having had a very long journey collecting dogs from all over Ireland, 29 of which were passported from the South, I decided to take the early boat home. This however, meant a longer drive on the other end for us from port to the rescue but still brought me home earlier meaning the dogs were on the van for less time.
My co-driver and writer Kelly was, as always magnificent, and despite when loading dogs getting covered in shot anal glands and much more, she remained happy, helpful and smiling throughout, despite the fact that the pair of us stank!
On arrival home at 2am this morning, a HUGE amount of staff turned up voluntarily to help unload these new arrivals and settle them in to their new kennels.  I have never run a rescue with more dedicated dog lovers than these guys. They all help me stay strong and you all help me go on saving lives.
THANK YOU you're all amazing.!!!!!

On Sunday 9th June, 201 Westies and 15 ‘Honorary Westies’ (ie non-Westies) descended on the seaside town of Filey in North Yorkshire for one of the twice yearly Westie Walks (held in June and October).
Westie owners come from all over the UK with many who are not local staying for the weekend/following week. Funds are raised for various organisations including Many Tears. The walks are organised by Maureen McGuinness Dunn and her wonderful Admin Team who make these walks possible and through the group, Westie and Honorary Westies have met lifelong friends who they meet up with at every walk.
The money raised at the walk is split between various animal charities and they sponsor 4 Many Tears kennels every year. After the walk, there are fundraising stalls which include a tombola (one for dogs, another for humans), a cake raffle etc. Fiona Lindley, a Many Tears fosterer, organises a fun dog show for her ex-foster Westies with a gift for all entrants and cups and hampers for the winners.
The winners of the June dog show were: 1st: Grace ( MT Limbo) 2nd: Molly (MT Molly) 3rd: Cassy (MT Shady Lady)

21-03-19 VOLUNTEERS FROM BT

One fresh spring day a group of 9 volunteers arrived from BT office can to visit Many Tears. None of them had been to Many Tears Animal Rescue before but all came open minded and ready to lend a hand.

We kicked off the day with a brief introduction and a highlight to the basic safety rules of the shelter, before heading out for a tour of the kennels. It was then that hearts began to melt... we saw big dogs, little dogs, shy dogs, lively dogs, sick dogs, old dogs, brand new puppy dogs... and each member of the team found a favourite!

We made a stop by at the Equine Rescue to learn about the harsh life of a rescue horse and to meet the ponies and donkey that were enjoying basking in the few hours of sunshine.

After a tea break and a chance to discuss their new four legged friends, we lined up some much appreciated cuddles and gentle attention with some of the shelter dogs. Part of the rehabilitation process involves building confidence through interaction, puppy cuddles make good therapy for dogs and humans alike... so we decided to go back for more after lunch!

The afternoon had the group head out for walkies with the liveliest dogs, groom the fur of the fluffiest dogs and share cuddles with tiniest dogs!

A good day was had by all. The group left with some raffle tickets for the September draw and memories of the unconditional love that is seldom found until you experience the company of a rescue dog. We’re very grateful for the chance to introduce this group of volunteers to Many Tears.

The photograph is of my dear brother-in-law Mick Allsopp with Jock one of his much loved dogs who started his love for West Highland Terriers. His last westie was found a wonderful forever home by Many Tears on his passing in August 2018. This compassionate, quiet man has left a very generous legacy to this wonderful rescue which was so close to his heart, knowing that they stood between love or a lifetime of misery for so many dogs. I will miss Mick very much, but like to think of him walking in God’s countryside with his dogs Jock and Mac.
You were one in a million Mick, and I’m very proud to have been part of your life.
Catherine Allsopp
